Post-Christmas Blues Playlist

Post-Christmas Blues Playlist

Is it just me or do you feel like things feel pretty glum now that Christmas is over? The Christmas trees are coming down, everyone is going back to work, and all the talk has shifted to the New Year.

I can honestly say that the few days between Christmas and New Year may actually be my least favorite days of the entire year for those reasons! It’s like all the happiness and cheer of the season are getting put away in boxes and stored in attics until next year. It’s so sad!!

Every time Christmas ends, it always leaves me feeling down in the dumps.  Luckily, I have a pretty good playlist already put together to help me get back on my feet and ready for 2019!

These songs will make you nostalgic, but they will also brighten your mood and make you feel really good!

Enjoy!

“Family Business” by Kanye West

I won’t go into too much detail about  why I think this song is fantastic because I want to write a completely separate review of it , but it just has a way of making you feel happy and nostalgic at the same time. It’s truly an outstanding work of art. I highly recommend it!

“100 Grand” by Lil Durk (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & A Boogie wit da Hoodie)

This is another great ‘feel good’ song. It makes you feel like you’re on top of the world! It’s got an airy beat that keeps the song light, unlike most rap songs. It’s also pretty humorous and fun to sing along to. These are actual lyrics from the song: “You say that’s your man, are you sure?” I don’t know about you, but I find that hilarious!

“Patty Cake” by Kodak Black

I particularly love the piano in this one because, for some reason, it reminds me of the Charlie Brown piano that I grew up loving so much. Does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me? Besides the cool piano, though, this song is really fun to listen to and even dance to!

“Topanga” by Trippie Redd

I find this song  interesting because it’s got this  light, wavy beat with kind of an R&B undertone, yet the lyrics are pretty dark and brooding. I’m a huge R&B fan, so I really like the smoothness that style brings to this hip-hop song. I’m sure you’ll be hooked on this song and singing along  in no time!

“Everyday” by A$AP Rocky (feat. Rod Stewart x Miguel x Mark Ronson)

I think it’s so strange that Rod Stewart is featured in this song, but somehow it works incredibly well. While this song still makes me feel good, it’s more subtle than the songs I’ve mentioned  so far. The beat in this song has a nice, dreamy quality to it and the lyrics are cool too! “Everyday I spend my time drinking wine, feeling fine…” It kind of reminds me of the Holidays, to be honest!

“Angels” by Chance the Rapper (feat. Saba)

I can almost guarantee that this song will lift your spirits! Between Chance’s smooth style, the  gospel undertones, and his fun ad libs, you’ll get sucked into this song until you can’t help but smile and dance, or even sing along.

“Feels Like Summer” by Childish Gambino

There are chill ‘feel good’ songs and hype ‘feel good’ songs. This song would definitely be classified as the former because it’s got a slower tempo  that makes you want to sink down into the seat of your car and just nod your head to the beat while you feel the music! Also, the music video is really cool if you’re interested in checking it out!

“Doses and Mimosas” by Cherub

This is definitely a party song! I love the beats and how they change and increase as the song progresses. The build is probably what makes me like it as much as I do. Plus, the vocals are very unique and cool too! I highly recommend this one!

“FUN!” by Vince Staples

This song is fantastic! My boyfriend would describe this as a “conscious” club banger, meaning that the stuff Vince is rapping about is more sophisticated than usual. I think this song is really unique because the beat kind of makes me feel like I’m underwater, which is pretty cool! I highly recommend this song! It will have you chill and hype at the same time.

“Big Fish” by Vince Staples

This is another great song by Vince Staples! It revolves around the fact that he’s successful and proud of it. I think those songs are the most fun to sing along with because we all wish we had that kind of succes!

“Congratulations” by Post Malone (feat. Quavo)

This song is similar to the last one in that it’s also about success. However, in comparison to the last song, Post Malone goes a lot more into what his life was like before he became famous, including  the long and hard journey that got him where he is today. I can appreciate and respect that a lot! I also really like the melody of this song because it’s super smooth and the chorus is really easy to sing along to!

“Shake Something” by Louis The Child (feat. Joey Purp)

Once again, another song about the glories of success! What makes this song so special is the way that he says the words. It’s very nonchalant- almost as if he’s describing how someone with new money should act. The beat is also fantastic and interesting, so I highly recommend this song!
