I’ve found the best foundation for oily skin through a ton of trial and error. I started taking makeup seriously around the end of 2015 and that was when I first started learning about foundation. I originally bought a ton of foundation without considering my skin type and what my skin needs. I learned quickly that my skin gets oily and that the foundations I bought did not work well with oily skin. Over the past couple of years, I’ve learned and experimented with different foundations to see what would work best with my oily skin. I’m confident that I’ve finally found the best foundation for oily skin, and if you have oily skin, these foundations might just be what you’ve been looking for!
Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation was the very first foundation I ever tried and it was because one of my best friends recommended it to me. This foundation is especially great for those who have oily skin because it gives a matte finished look. The price is also perfect for anyone who is on a budget.
When I first started wearing foundation, this was my go-to foundation. I wore this foundation for 2 years straight before branching off to new foundations. I would apply it early in the morning and it would still look great by the end of the night. It is perfect for oily skin because it contains a lightweight formula so you won’t even feel the product on your face. It’s one of my favorite foundations because it contains micro-powders that help to prevent me from getting oily or shiny. It blurs my pores and works well for all types of weather and any season.
Fenty Beauty is one of my favorite brands and I fell in love with this foundation during the first use. If I had to choose from the foundations listed, this would be my absolute favorite foundation. This foundation gives you a matte finish so for those of you who are oily like me, you don’t have to worry about looking too oily or worry too much about blotting throughout the day.
Whenever I use this foundation, I don’t blot whatsoever because this foundation does a great job with containing my oils and giving me a matte look. I never have to worry about my face getting oily or if I need to excuse myself to blot. This foundation is perfect for those with oily skin because it is a buildable foundation so I’m able to apply concealer on top of my foundation without it being too cakey or too oily for me. I’m able to set my foundation and apply my highlighter and bronzer and my foundation still won’t make me oily.
It’s shine-free and resistant to sweat and humidity. I wore this foundation almost every day during the summer and even with high temperatures in the 90s, this foundation still worked well with my oily skin. I didn’t feel gross or disgusting so I think it’s perfect for anyone who wants a great foundation for oily skin year-round no matter the weather or temperature.
3. Givenchy Matissime Velvet Fluid Foundation
Aside from Fenty Beauty’s foundation, this is my second favorite foundation. This foundation is a bit pricey. However, it’s great for people with oily skin because this foundation is light and fast absorbing.
When I first applied the foundation on me, it was easy to blend onto my skin and it didn’t take long for my face to look matte and radiant. Because this foundation is easy to blend, I was able to apply concealer on top without my skin looking too cakey.
This foundation is perfect for me because it gives me a glow without making me look oily or greasy. It helps to make my skin look smooth and to make my skin look balanced without irritating my skin. Because of the lightweight formula, even when I’m sweating or in hot temperatures, I still don’t feel the product on my face. I never feel gross nor do I need to constantly go to the bathroom to blot.
Lancome was the first high-end foundation that I tried. After constant recommendations and reading reviews for weeks, I decided to bite the bullet and spend the $50 on this amount. I told myself, “If this doesn’t work, I’ll just return it!”
But after a week of using this foundation, I genuinely loved it. It’s perfect for oily skin because it creates a velvety-smooth complexion that lasts 24 hours. I know with some foundations, I have to touch up throughout the day but this one lasts all day and night so I never have to worry about retouching or blotting.
This foundation contained perlite and silica which helped to make sure the oils on my face were being absorbed so that I can have a velvety-matte finish. I never have to worry about my face being shiny or oily so I do recommend this product.
When I’m out in the sun, I do have to blot to make sure I don’t look sweaty but when I’m indoors, I never have to worry about that. For anyone who’s contemplating about spending the amount on this foundation, I think it’s worth the money.
5. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
I originally was nervous about trying this product because many people said it “hydrated” their face and the last thing I needed was a foundation that made me look even oilier. However, after trying this product for a few days, everyone was right about this foundation hydrating my face. It did not make me oily either.
By hydrating, it helps to keep my face moisturized while containing all the excess oils to prevent my face from looking shiny and oily. Some foundations feel dry on my skin while still making me look oily but this foundation makes my skin feel soft while also making sure the oils don’t make my face look shiny.
It is a medium-to-full coverage foundation so while this foundation prevents me from looking shiny, it also covers most of my blemishes and imperfections. My favorite part about this foundation is that when I take selfies or photos with the flash on, there’s no flashback, meaning I won’t look shiny or oily even in pictures!
6. Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation
With this foundation, I will admit that it still makes me oily. However, it does not make me as oily as other foundations. From the foundations listed here, this is probably my least favorite foundation but still one of the best foundations overall that I’ve tried.
So with this foundation, I do get oily but I only have to blot once a day so it doesn’t necessarily make me too shiny and oily. What I like about this foundation is that the formula is very thin and lightweight. When I apply this foundation to my skin, you can barely even see the foundation because it’s a natural matte finish. It’s basically an “invisible” foundation because you can’t feel or see the foundation on your skin.
However, it does make me oily throughout the day. If I don’t blot at all, then it is obvious that my skin looks oily. However, blotting only once a day is fine for me because after I blot once, the excessive oils are wiped away and then, my skin looks great afterward.
This foundation is great for those who want a “no makeup” look. If you’re only out and about for a few hours, then this foundation is perfect for you as your skin won’t get oily within those few hours. If you are out and about for the entire day, you will have to blot at least once to ensure that your skin does not look oily.
7. Revlon ColorStay 24 HRS Makeup for Combo/Oily Skin
One of my favorite things about this foundation is that it contains SPF 15. While this product prevents me from getting oily, it also helps my skin from getting tanner. For anyone on a budget, this is a great alternative because it lasts 24 hours and gives off a matte look so I never have to worry about oily skin when using this foundation.
This foundation perfectly blends in with my skin but also gives me coverage to hide all of my imperfections and blemishes. I never have to blot throughout the day when I use this foundation and I never get a flashback in photos when using it. The foundation absorbs easily into my skin which is great because it helps to absorb all of the excessive oils throughout the day as well.
For anyone looking for a lightweight foundation, then this foundation is perfect for you! Whenever I apply this foundation on, I don’t even feel it on my skin and it layers well with my concealer, bronzer, highlighter without breaking me out or making me look cakey. I wear this foundation a lot in the summer and it does a great job of making sure I don’t look sweaty, oily or shiny.
8. Wet ‘n Wild Photo Focus Foundation
Aside from Maybelline and Revlon, this is the next best alternative for a drug-store oil-free foundation. I will admit that with the right powder and primer, this product is great for oily skin. If you use powder and primer that is not compatible with oily skin, then the foundation will not necessarily work because you will still look oily afterward.
Aside from that, this foundation works great with blendability so I don’t have to worry about looking cakey. However, I do have to retouch my foundation once a day when I use this and I’m out and about for the whole day but I never have to blot. The foundation does crease in certain areas of my face, but it doesn’t make me oily.
One of the only things I do not like about this product is that it does take a few minutes to dry. To make sure I don’t look oily, I just use a small amount of foundation because a little does go a long way and also because it takes a few minutes to completely soak into my skin.
Once the foundation is soaked into my skin, my skin looks matte and oil-free! Also, my skin looks great in any type of lighting and photo-flash so I personally never get insecure about being oily when using this product. I personally can’t even tell that my skin is oily with it whether in pictures or in person!
Although there are still so many foundations out that that are perfect for oily skin, these are the ones out of the bunch that I’ve tried that work well specifically for my oily skin that I think will work and be compatible for you. I’ve tried quite a number of foundations over the past couple of years and these ones are the ones I typically tend to gravitate towards. So if you are struggling to find the right foundation or had a certain budget, these 8 foundations listed above are perfect and work extremely well with
