Before I start discussing why I love Simon Sinek, I should first explain who is he, what he does and how I came across him in the first place. A few months ago, I was in some serious need of motivation. I was really struggling to stay motivated with my blog. I felt like I was failing and I was wondering what the point was of putting so much time into my blog when nothing was working. I was in a big mess and I decided to try and find some motivation on YouTube by randomly typing in “motivational talks”. Low and behold Simon Sinek popped up!
Simon Sinek is a British-American motivational and leadership speaker, entrepreneur and author leading a movement to inspire people. He is best known for popularizing the concepts of “the golden circle” and to “Start With Why“. These concepts really inspired me at the time and helped get me out of that rut.
Here are even more reasons why I love watching Simon Sinek and why you should too!
He Fills People with Motivation
Motivation is an important life skill. Everyone in the world is unique and has a purpose in life. To get the best out of your purpose, you have to be motivated to work toward your goals so your dreams become a reality. We all live in a world where motivation has solved many problems and produced products and services that we never believed we needed.
The moment I clicked on Simon Sinek’s video, I was hooked! I watched him hold an audience absolutely captivated, controlling the room and filling people, including me, with the motivation that we all need in life. When we are motivated, we have a desire to change our lives. Motivation helps us clarify our goals so we know what to work toward.
He Encourages You to Chase Your Dreams
Simon Sinek taught me that we achieve more when we chase the dream rather than the competition. Without our dreams, we are nothing. Your dreams are what can get you through even the worst of days. If you are struggling, your dreams are your reason to keep going. They are the reason to wake up in the morning and try again. They are what makes life worth living.
When we pursue our dreams, we end up meeting like-minded people who have the same values and interests. And when we surround ourselves with like-minded people it inspires us to keep moving forward and focus on our dreams, not the competition around us.
He Teaches You How to Be A Leader
Simon Sinek taught me that leadership requires two things: a vision of the world that does not yet exist and the ability to communicate it. Many companies have hired him to help with improving the leadership skills of their employees, for example, Maes, NASA and Disney!
Simon Sinek points out that everyone in an organization knows “what” it is that they do. Some know “how” they do it. But, very few know “why” they do what they do. He points out that the reason can’t be to make a profit. That’s a result, and always will be, of providing something of value.
As I am planning to run my own business and have a team of people working with me, I have been learning a lot from Simon Sinek in regards to leadership. If you are looking to manage a team, watching Simon Sinek is a definite must do for you.
He Shares A Unique Perspective on Value
Simon says that value is not determined by those who set the prices but by those who choose to pay it. When we are running a business we can’t determine what is valuable to the customers–it is up to them to decide if the product or service is valuable.
This is why making our customers and audiences feel valued is so important, or even just people around us for that matter. When we value people it gives us a huge advantage against others.
Simon Sinek has taken the world by storm and is helping to improve many businesses and lives, beginning with his YouTube videos, Ted Talks, and the five books he has written.
Let’s have a look at his books
Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
START WITH WHY shows that the leaders who’ve had the greatest influence in the world all think, act, and communicate the same way–and it’s the opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea “The Golden Circle”, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, which movements can be led, and the people that can be inspired. And it all starts with WHY.
We can all have a dream or a goal but unfortunately life can get in the way and you hold back on that dream or goal. But, remembering WHY you started and WHY you wanted to reach this goal can be so beneficial when you start to work on those dreams and goals that you have.
Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t
Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and self-interest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a “Circle of Safety” that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside.
Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.
Together Is Better: A Little Book of Inspiration
Filled with inspiring quotes, this richly illustrated fable tells a delightful story of three kids who go on a journey to a new playground and take a stand for what they believe in. The story is a metaphor for anyone looking to make a change or wondering how to pursue their dreams. And the message is simple: relationships–real human relationships–really do matter. The stronger our relationships, and the stronger the bonds of trust and cooperation, the more we can accomplish and the more joy and fulfillment we get from our work and personal lives.
Find Your Why: A Practical Guide for Discovering Your Purpose for You and Your Team
As Start With Why has spread around the world, countless readers have asked Simon the same question: How can I apply Start With Why to my career, team, company or nonprofit? Along with two of his colleagues, Peter Docker and David Mead, he created this hands-on, step-by-step guide to help you find your “why”.
With detailed exercises, illustrations, and action steps for every stage of the process, Find Your Why can help you address many important concerns, including:
* What if my WHY sounds just like my competitor’s?
* Can I have more than one WHY?
* If my work doesn’t match my WHY, what should I do?
* What if my team can’t agree on our WHY?
The Infinite Game
In Infinite Game, like business, or politics, or life itself, the players come and go, the rules are changeable, and there is no defined endpoint. There are no winners or losers in an infinite game; there is only ahead and behind. The only things that are infinite in this world is the past and the future. How are we going to change the past? How are we going to make the future better! This book shows how we don’t need to stick to a set of rules to change our past and rebuild our future.
Simon Sinek is an amazing man. He can hold an audience with his confidence, humor and insights to help you create a better you and also a better business for you and your team. His passion to help us is clearly evident!
A simple Google search of Simon Sinek will give so much information on his thoughts and teachings. Without having to buy his books you can learn so much from simply watching his videos.
You should definitely watch him and let me know what you think!
